Dietary fibre is a complex carbohydrate. It is the indigestible part of foods, such as vegetables, fruits, grains, beans and legumes. It is a kind of carbohydrate that helps keep our digestive system healthy and also known as fibre for the stomach.

There are 3 kinds of dietary fibre:

    • Soluble
    • Insoluble
    • Resistant starch

 

Soluble fibre helps you feel full by slow down the emptying process in the stomach. It also lowers the blood cholesterol and stabilises the blood glucose level. 

They are found in fruits, vegetables, oats, barley and legumes.

Resistant starch proceeds to the large intestine as it is not digested in the small intestine. In large intestine, it can assist in the production of good bacteria and improve bowel movement.

They are found in  under cooked pasta, under-ripe bananas, cooked and cooled potato and rice.
